Our last week of term 5 has been jammed packed with fun activities and lots of learning. We finished off our sketching in art and had a party afternoon on Thursday because we reached 6,000 dojo points. On Thursday we took part in the house netball competition (which Venus won) and this was lots of fun!
This afternoon in tennis we have practised our aiming and serving skills. Firstly we had to try and hit the ball into a hula hoop and it was very tricky. Some of us managed to get the ball in the hoop. After this we had to keep moving side to side between hitting the ball. Mrs Johanson took some fantastic action shots of us playing which we will show you now.
This morning we wrote character descriptions for our dinosaur adventure stories. We had to include adjectives to describe what our dinosaurs look like and some of us used adjectives to describe their personality! Charlie’s T-Rex is fierce and cunning.
Katelyn has two characters called ‘Dinohead’ and ‘Dino’. They are siblings and Dinohead is very caring and friendly while Dino is bold!
We’ve been doing our background for our dinosaur collages. We used: marbles, paintbrushes and sponges to dab the paint onto the paper. First the marbles were used to roll in the paint and then on the paper. Then we used the paint brushes to splash, splish and flick paint on our paper. We would like to say thank you to Mrs Clough and Mrs Bamford for coming in to help. We had a very fun afternoon.
This afternoon we continued working on our dinosaur artwork. We had to draw the outline of a dinosaur (it was hard to not add detail) and then split the page into sections of 4cm. We used a repeating pattern of 3 colours to colour in the background and then had to change the pattern to colour in the dinosaur. It was lots of fun!
This morning we learnt about equivalent fractions. These are fractions that have the same value but are written with different numerators and denominators. We now know that 2/4 are equivalent to 1/2 and 2/6 are equivalent to 1/3.
Later in spellings we looked at the soft c and hard c sounds. We read lots of words with these sounds and had to decide if they had the soft c or hard c. Some words like icicle and circle have both! We quickly noticed that lots of our topic words have these sounds in them too!
This morning Mrs Johanson read Gigantosaurus by Jonny Duddle. We then had to answer comprehension questions about the book. Zara said that the Ankylosaurus was her favourite character because she is so wise.
In maths we took advantage of the sunshine and went outside to sort 2-D shapes using venn diagrams.
After lunch we continued to work on our racket skills and even managed to squeeze in some mini games.
